Beast Rider - War Rhino by alltheoriginalnames Beast Rider - War Rhino by alltheoriginalnames

Now available for Prints,
and for download at a larger size as well.

It's been while since I have done any Fantasy Art since I've been on a Sci-fi kick of late, so I figured I'd give it a go.
Inspired in part by the Age of Conan Game concept Art.

I may do a series of different Beat Rider ideas, who knows. Thanks for looking.

Done in Poser, Vue and Photoshop

Hey very nice work man. I really like the comp you did in this along with the texturing. I thought it was zBrush made at first.

Good job!

Love this brother!! Only thing is, I would love to see it bigger.

Thanks man, glad you dig it.

It actually had to downsize it to 900px wide in order to use it on my frontpage widget.
The actual size is 1600px wide.
I usually render larger than what I display anyways, I like to keep the display at about 1024 even if I render at 3000.

I have to ask if you play Heroes of Newerth. There is a charecter called rampage who rides a rhino. I have had trouble finding a rhino imagining that I liked, but you, sir, have nailed it. I noticed in your comment that you said you might do more beast rider ideas, and I think you should.

Unfortunately I have never played Heroes of Newerth, but I will definitely check it out.
I wanted to do a series of characters on more uncommon mounts, and hopefully may get back to it at some point.

Thank you for the complement, glad you like it.

Now that's different from what I've seen at the other artists here on DA, think it shows it belongs to U, quite authentic, I'd love:love: to see her in a game or movie- armor, tribal signs, colors, blood & shadings they're all awesome , especially the "amazon"-well besides the character & its mount; well the background, quite awesome indeed, looks a bit out the pose, like it's not very realistic compared to.. & the position of the rider, from what i'm seeing the rhino is like charging(since there's dust coming from the ground),no? although more than sure she is skilled,I don't think she should stand so relaxed &.., unless U want this to be more of a wallpaper-then it's WICKED!:O

This scene looks incredible! The first time I saw it almost 2 months and seeing it again today it still blows my mind!! The overall scene is perfect:clap:

I do have two suggestions though, if you'll have them:)

-First, the lighting on the woman looks amazing - perfectly natural lighting , but the lighting on the rhino seems a little different. For one, the rhino seems to be lit by a bright white light source. I'd suggets adding some orange or yellow to the highlights of the rhino to better match the lighting of hte woman and the background.

-Second, the rhino's tattoos. I stared at this image for 2 full minutes trying to figure out what bothered me about the tattoos and it finally came to me. The tattoos don't seem to have any light reflecting onto them. they also seem flat compared to the overly rough texture of the rhino's skin. So, I'd suggest first adding some faint highlights to the tattoos - whther you do this manually or by simply reducing the tattoo's transparency is up to you. Second, I'd suggest using the Smudge and Clone tools (with soft edge) to add some texture to the edges of the tattoos. This combined with the highlights should give the tattos a much more natural and realistic appearance.

Otherwise this is incredible! Great work! (and awesome concept:D)

Thank you for the in-depth feedback, very much appreciated.
Textures with the Rhino where definitely an issue. I just couldn't seem to get it right, and having a sever lack of Rhino experience it proved more difficult. I don't render animals too often, so I definitely need to get some more experience working with the and getting better realism.

*gasp*
I started two warrior women riding a rhino months back. It's wonderful to see someone else who thinks they belong together as well.

Nothing worse than a pissed off woman on a pissed off Rhino. I have always liked beast rider concepts, and plan on doing a few more of them.

I do love this one. I'll have to finish mine eventually. It's much different, they're in more of a caravan type mood.. I love the fierceness of this- and you did a beautiful job on the dust cloud- it really emphasizes the thundering hell of a rhino charge quite well.
